2 killed by unidentified men in North Cotabato town

KIDAPAWAN CITY—A barangay (village) health worker and her companion were killed when unidentified armed men fired at them in Aleosan, North Cotabato on Tuesday, police said.

Senior Inspector Edwin Abantes, Aleosan police chief, identified the victims as Daisy Campoy, 54; and Ricardo Kalod, 49, both residents of Barangay New Leon, also in Aleosan town.

Abantes said the victims were on board a motorcycle and on their way to the barangay hall to report for work when two men riding in tandem fired at them.

The victims died on the spot, Abantes said.

The suspects fled and carted away the brand new motorcycle the victims were using.

Aleosan Mayor Vicente Soropia believed that the motorcycle was the target of the suspects, who could be members of a motorcycle theft gang. RAM/rga
