Typhoon “Karen” (international name: Sarika) is expected to pass close to Polillo Islands midnight and make landfall over the province of Aurora province early Sunday, the weather bureau said late Saturday.
In its 11 pm Saturday bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the center of the typhoon as of 10 pm was located based on all available data at 120 km East Northeast of Infanta, Quezon.
It has maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.
Pagasa said the estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 500 km diameter of the typhoon.
Under signal number 3 are the provinces of Pangasinan, Northern Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Northern Quezon including Polilio Island, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.
Provinces under signal number 2:
Ilocos Sur, Southern Isabela, Mt Province, Ifugao, Rest of Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Metro Manila, rest of Quezon and Camarines Norte.
Provinces under signal number 1:
Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Rest of Isabela, Southern Apayao, Southern Cagayan, Oriental Mindoro, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Marinduque, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay and Burias Island.
