LUCENA CITY – With the continuous government operation against forest destroyers in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges, authorities confiscated 195 pieces of illegally cut logs left abandoned in Real town in northern Quezon Friday.
Report from Quezon police headquarters said combined police, Army soldiers and operatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources found the abandoned forest products in Barangay (village) Llavac. The seized hardwood red lauan specie was estimated to be around 3.8 cubic meters (1,635 bd ft).
The authorities have yet to determine the owner of the confiscated woods.
Last week, DENR forest rangers recovered more than 3,000 pieces of illegally cut logs also left abandoned in General Nakar town.
The northern Quezon section of the Sierra Madre is considered a hot spot for illegal logging operations. CDG
