LUCENA CITY – Three persons were killed and one was injured in a landslide in Binangonan town in Rizal province late Thursday as tropical storm “Karen” (international name: Sarika) dumped rains over Southern Luzon, military said Saturday.

Major Virgilio Perez Jr., public information officer of the military’s Southern Luzon Command, citing reports from Binangonan Mayor Cecilio Ynares, said the landslide destroyed three houses in Barangay (village) Ithan around 10:00 p.m.
The report identified the victims as Arcile Latoja, 26, Rex Adrian Latoja, 6, and Reynold Latoja 3. The report did not indicate if the fatalities were family members.
The injured was identified as one Luisito Oliveros, 38.
Perez said Army soldiers went to the site to help in the rescue and retrieval operation.
Perez said the military in Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions are on standby for deployment to assist typhoon victims.
