SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — A 50-year-old mechanic was killed while two others were injured when a truck being lifted by a crane struck them inside the former Naval Supply Depot compound here on Tuesday (Oct. 11), police said.

The truck was being loaded into a cargo vessel when one of the crane’s steel cables snapped, causing the truck to swing around and slam into three port workers at 11 a.m., said PO3 Diosdado Alterado, Jr., investigator at police station 3 in Olongapo City.

Augusto Odeña, a resident of Barangay (village) San Benito in Dinalupihan, Bataan, died from head injuries.

Melvin Murphy, 40, and Ferfer Baful, 46, were taken to a hospital.

The victims’ relatives did not lodge a complaint against the crane operator after signing a waiver, police said.  SFM
