A low pressure area (LPA) monitored since Tuesday is forecast to develop into a tropical depression.

As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the LPA was located 715 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Residents of Eastern Visayas and the Caraga region were warned of landslides, flashfloods, cloudy skies with  occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The LPA is expected to develop into a tropical depression to be named “Karen” within 24 hours.

Pagasa forecast cloudy skies with rains and thunderstorms over Bicol, Mimaropa and the rest of Visayas, Mindanao, Metro Manila and Luzon. —JAYMEE T. GAMIL
