Under Republic Act No. 7696, military veterans and their families should receive P1,700 in monthly allowance upon reaching the age of 70 starting April 9, 1994, as well as medical care and educational support for their children.

During the National Heroes’ Day commemoration on Aug. 29, President Duterte ordered the release of P4.7 billion in unpaid benefits to war veterans and widows of soldiers. The amount was included in the 2016 budget.

As of April 2016, there were about 9,500 surviving veterans and 16,237 surviving spouses entitled to benefits. —Compiled by Kathleen de Villa, Inquirer Research  Source: Inquirer Archives
