ORMOC CITY, Philippines — A barangay kagawad who surrendered to the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang was shot dead inside his house while watching television with his wife at about 6:20 p.m., Monday, in Sabang Beach here.
Superindent Mariano Epilogo, Station 1 chief, identified the victim as Ramil Daffon, 44, of Sabang Beach.
Investigator SPO2 Ruben Orsolino said three men barged into Daffon’s house and two of them opened fire at the village official who was lying in a sofa bed.
The wife, Delsa, 44, who was lying beside Daffon, said she saw sparks and heard noise that sounded like light bulbs exploding. She then saw the armed intruders and her husband already shot.
Delsa said she tried to follow the assailants who casually walk away but turned back when one of the gunmen opened fire at her.
She said she could not identify the suspects because the shooting was so sudden and she was unable to get a good look at their faces. She added that two of the three men wore black shirts and baseball caps.
The wife said her husband had no known enemies in their community, but she admitted that he was a shabu user. She said her husband was not involved in selling illegal drugs.
