Grandmother asks for help for 8-year-old grandchild

Ma. Keith Antonette Batac may be suffering from acute leukemia although her illness has not stopped her from attending classes in a school for the sick at Philippine General Hospital where she is seeking treatment.

“She is enrolled as a Grade 2 pupil in a SPED [special education] class. It is only for patients who live near the hospital,” Anita Gracia said of her 8-year-old granddaughter.

According to Garcia, it is her love for Keith that has been spurring her to make the rounds of charitable institutions and kind-hearted people willing to help out with the young girl’s medical expenses.

Keith’s parents are separated and Racquel, the girl’s mother, is the sole breadwinner in the family. “Normally, she takes home P250 a day. How can you survive on that, much less spend for your daughter’s chemotherapy?” Garcia said.
