President Rodrigo Duterte and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chair Nur Misuari are set to meet next week amid the government’s peace talks with communist rebels.

“Misuari is getting out of Jolo next week and we will begin to talk,” Duterte said in a speech at the National Banana Congress 2016 in Davao City.

The President did not give further details of their upcoming meeting.

Duterte earlier said he had ordered state forces not to implement the arrest order against Misuari in an effort to end decades-long insurgencies with Muslim and communist rebels.

He also earlier said he wanted to talk to Misuari rather than waste government money on fighting with the rebels.
