Student hurt in bomb blast
KABACAN, North Cotabato—A homemade bomb exploded Monday morning along the national highway in Kayaga village here, hitting a bus and slightly wounding one of its passengers.
Sheila Nuniska, a student of University of Southern Mindanao, suffered a shrapnel wound in the hand and was brought to the hospital, according to Inspector Jeffrey Todenio, Kabacan chief investigator.
“She was sitting at the back of the driver when an IED (improvised explosive device) went off outside the bus,” Todenio said.
The Rural Transit bus, with 40 passengers on board, was on its way to Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat province from Cagayan de Oro City when the bomb exploded.
Superintendent Joseph Semillano, Kabacan police chief, said extortion could be the motive of the bombers since the bus company had been receiving extortion letters. Carlo Agamon and Edwin O. Fernandez, Inquirer Mindanao; Matikas Santos, INQUIRER.net
