BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — An 83-year old woman was found dead on Monday (Oct. 3) after she was allegedly choked to death by her own son and dumped in Diffun town in Quirino province.

The body of Regina Gabut, which was wrapped in a blanket, was found slumped along the road in Barangay (village) Isidro Paredes at 5:30 a.m., the Diffun police said.

Gabut, a resident of Plaridel village in Santiago City, might have been strangled to death with a leather belt.

The prime suspect is her son, Nestorio, 49, who was detained and sent to a medical facility in Tuguegarao City.

“The suspect is a mental patient and is still undergoing therapy. He supposedly missed his regular shot of anti-depressants on Sunday and he went berserk that night,” said Chief Insp. Maciste Serrano, Diffun police chief.  SFM/rga
