Wounded soldiers get medals

THE ARMED Forces of the Philippines yesterday awarded medals to five soldiers wounded in recent encounters against the bandit Abu Sayyaf Group.

During simple rites at Camp Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo, Sulu, Wounded Personnel Medals were pinned on recuperating soldiers 2Lt. Joelimar Sulit, Sgt. Mario de Guzman Jr., Sgt. Berhamin Jumdana, Pfc. Deborah Paracuelles and Pvt. Michael Andre Atega.

Brig. Gen. Arnel de la Vega, commander of AFP-Joint Task Force Sulu, pinned the medals on the wounded soldiers.

“This is one way of recognizing the bravery and services of our troops in protecting the people of Sulu,” De la Vega was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the AFP.
