Jail officer shot dead in Cebu
CEBU CITY—A jail officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Danao City, northern Cebu, was killed by two unknown assailants on Friday morning.
JO2 Celso Montalba died on the spot after he was shot twice in the head, twice in the chest and three times on the right hand at 7:20 a.m. in Barangay (village) Guinsay, Danao, 48.3 km from here.
PO3 Roselo Campo, desk officer in Danao City Police Station, said the victim was on his way to work after bringing his child to school when he was shot by one of the two men on board a motorcycle.
The perpetrators, he added, wore bonnets.
Campo said they had yet to determine the motive for the killing although a piece of carton was found next to the victim’s body that read “BJMP na pusher wag sunda ikaw sunod (A BJMP personnel who was a pusher. Don’t follow his ways. You’ll be next).”
Campo said 10.3 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P121,540 was recovered from the victim’s left side pocket./rga
