More wet weather forecast

/ 05:18 AM September 30, 2016

A low pressure area that developed over Luzon is expected to bring more monsoon rain over the island and parts of the Visayas the rest of the week, the weather bureau said on Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted the LPA about 635 kilometers east of Cagayan Thursday morning. It was not expected to intensify into a cyclone  but is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon prevailing over Luzon and the Visayas.

The weather system would bring moderate to occasionally heavy rain and could trigger flashfloods and landslides in Metro Manila and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Pampanga, Rizal, Mindoro, Antique, Capiz, Aklan and Iloilo, Pagasa warned.

The weather bureau remains on alert for an incoming tropical storm, internationally named “Chaba,” which was last spotted tracking toward Japan.

If it maintains its track, the new storm is expected to graze the country’s northernmost borders beginning Saturday but will be too far to directly affect the country, according to Pagasa. Dona Z. Pazzibugan
