3 shot dead while repacking shabu in Laguna house
SAN PEDRO CITY – Three people, two of them on the government’s drug watch list, were shot and killed by armed men who barged into a house in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna province on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
Supt. Giovanni Martinez, city police chief, said Edgardo Mariquit, his wife, Elizabeth, and Gorgonio Villegas were in the Mariquit couple’s house in Garden Villas Subdivision in Barangay Ibaba when the suspects arrived and fired at them at 8:45 p.m. They died instantly.
Martinez said Edgardo Mariquit and Villegas were among confessed drug suspects who surrendered to authorities under the antidrug campaign Oplan Tokhang.
Police believed the attack was related to the illegal drug trade, after investigators found 22 sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) on top of a table in the couple’s house.
“It seemed [the victims] were repacking [illegal drugs] when they were attacked,” Martinez said. JE/rga
