A 60-year-old businessman died on the spot after one of two still unidentified men shot him several times in front of his house in Malabon City the other night.
Chief Inspector Carlos Dilag, city police intelligence unit chief, told the Inquirer that whoever was behind the killing of Joseph Tangcangco wanted to ensure that he would not survive.
This was evident by the number of shots fired by the gunman, he said.
Scene of the Crime Operatives found at least seven spent shells from a .45-cal. revolver at the site of the killing.
Tangcangco, a Chinese national engaged in the buy-and-sell business, was shot at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday in front of his house on Simon Street in Barangay (village) Acacia.
“The businessman was about to park his vehicle when the gunman struck. His live-in partner, Tay Olid, had just gotten off the vehicle to open the gate of the garage,” Dilag told the Inquirer.
After shooting the victim, witnesses said that the gunman, who was wearing a white T-shirt and a bull cap, casually walked away from Tangcangco’s car, a silver Chevrolet Captiva, toward a motorcycle where another man was waiting.
The two men then escaped.
While the police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing, Dilag said that they were conducting follow-up operations for the arrest of the two men.
