Barangay tanod chief collared for selling drugs

LUCENA CITY – Authorities arrested the head of “barangay tanods” (village watchmen) in Dolores town in Quezon province on charges of alleged illegal drug activity, police said Saturday.

Senior Insp. Diane Bernardo, Dolores police chief, said operatives armed with search warrant raided the house of suspect Edwin Bautista, 47, in Barangay Antonino around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The raiders seized eight small plastic sachets containing “shabu” worth P2,500 and an unlicensed Remington shotgun with nine pieces of ammunition.

“The drugs are ready for retail,” Bernardo said in a phone interview.

Police said the suspect was not included in the local drug watch list but he was identified by one of the surrenderees as a drug pusher. CDG
