Army troops rescue trader abducted in Zamboanga del Norte

Army soldiers on Wednesday morning rescued a businesswoman abducted by the Abu Sayyaf in Zamboanga del Norte last Monday.

Initial reports from the military said that soldiers from the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion rescued Martina Yee in Sulu.

A previous report from the military said that the 60-year-old businesswoman was snatched from her grocery store by six heavily armed men in Sirawai on Monday afternoon.

She was taken by the armed men on board a pump boat and fled towards Zamboanga City. They later docked at BG Pier in Brgy. Kajatian in Indanan in Sulu.

When they arrived, the Army was alerted to conduct rescue operations, Tan said.

The soldiers also recovered a new speedboat used to transport the kidnap victim .

Yee was brought to a hospital in Jolo for check up before she was turned over to her family in Zamboanga City.  CDG
