Rescue teams in Caloocan City eyed

CALOOCAN City Mayor Enrico Echiverri has instructed barangay officials to form risk reduction teams in preparation for any disaster that may possibly hit the country.

The mayor addressed his order to Liga ng mga Barangay president and councilor Ricojudge Echiverri, saying each barangay must have its own risk reduction team so that it may immediately respond in cases of fires, typhoons, earthquakes or any other type of disaster.

“Proper preparation for any disaster…assures that we’ll be able to respond efficiently and save lives and properties,” the mayor said in a statement yesterday.

According to him, volunteers who will be picked from each barangay will undergo proper emergency response training.

The volunteers will then be affiliates of the city-led Reformed Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management (RDPSTM) Rescue Team.

One of their responsibilities will be to educate the public about disaster preparedness. Experts have been invited to teach them to administer first aid before victims of disasters are taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The mayor said the Liga ng mga Barangay had started enlisting volunteers.
