DIGOS CITY—The high school teacher of President Duterte was named by the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) as Mindanao winner of its Gawad Entrepreneur 2016.
Romualdo Crispino, a teacher-turned-businessman, was selected from among several contenders for his business investments and the employment they generated, among other criteria.
He received cash and trophy from the LBP, through LBP vice president for Mindanao Joselito Gutierrez, as part of his recognition earlier this week.
Crispino, 82, was named Gawad winner after LBP executives conducted a series of “intensive and thorough evaluation and interviews” of nine contenders from all over the country.
LBP said the other criteria for the winners included sound financial capacity, personnel management and works on corporate social responsibility, such as sponsorship of projects and programs for communities hosting their businesses.
Crispino used to teach economics at Mindanao Colleges (now University of Mindanao) in Davao City, where Duterte was among his high school students in 1959.
He later quit teaching and ventured into business. Eldie Aguirre, Inquirer Mindanao
