BASCO, Batanes—Typhoon Ferdie’s strong winds and rains damaged P225 million worth of homes and government facilities in the Batanes islands on Sept. 14, said Charles Ibanes, head of the Batanes Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, on Friday.
Batan island, which hosts the municipalities of Basco, Mahatao, Ivana and Uyugan, drew damages to government buildings estimated at P83 million and P4.5 million in wrecked roads and bridges.
The typhoon also damaged waterworks estimated to be worth P12.4 million, power facilities P20 million, and houses P40 million.
The typhoon also cost the island P52.9 million in lost crops, over P2 million in livestock and P1.5 million in fisheries.
Communication has not yet been established in the municipalities of Itbayat and Sabtang islands.
Batanes Gov. Marilou Cayco said she had asked local businesses for help.
