Signal No. 1 was raised in Batanes on Thursday afternoon due to Typhoon “Gener” (international name Malakas).
The typhoon has accelerated and slightly intensified as it maintained its west northwest track, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Gener packed maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 170. It moved at 25 kph.
The typhoon was last tracked 615 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan.
The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, will bring cloudy skies and light to moderate rains and isolated rains over Palawan, Mindoro and Western Visayas.
The northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon will have rough to very rough sea conditions, Pagasa said.
Gener is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday afternoon.
