‘Gener’ enhancing habagat; rain expected nationwide

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of the country on Thursday due to Typhoon “Gener” (international name Malakas).

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region,  the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Palawan and Western Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The typhoon was last tracked 800 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora. It packed maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph.

It is forecast to move west northwest at 22 kph.

Gener is not likely to make landfall but may enhance the habagat or southwest monsoon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country, Pagasa said.
