A day after announcing the implementation of a one-way traffic scheme in Barangay South Triangle starting today, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista decided to postpone the traffic plan pending the completion of road works in the area.
The local government unit earlier announced that the new traffic management plan was envisioned “to relieve traffic along Quezon Avenue up to Welcome Rotonda.”
Under the new traffic scheme, all existing U-turn slots along Quezon Avenue from the corner of West Avenue to Edsa will be closed. On the other hand, the intersection of Quezon Avenue and Scout Borromeo and West 4th will be opened to vehicles.
Road works
In a statement, Bautista said he followed the recommendation of the barangay (village) officials to defer the implementation until all road works and repairs in the area are finished.
The city mayor said he has asked the City Engineering Department to submit a report indicating the status of road works along Scout Borromeo, Scout Tobias, Scout Tuazon, Scout Madrinan, Mother Ignacia, Panay Avenue and Sgt. Esguerra.
For its part, the city’s engineering office said the ongoing road works in the area include flood control and road widening projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“We had to reset the implementation because there are still road diggings along some roads,” explained Elmo San Diego, head of the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety.
The local government has not identified a new date for the implementation of the scheme but DPWH project inspector Mark James Berboso said the road works would be finished by November.
Once implemented, the scheme is expected to decongest the roads in Barangay South Triangle, which is part of the the city’s new tourism development plan, especially Sgt. Esguerra Avenue where two of the biggest broadcast networks in the country are located.
