Village chief, 4 others killed in Pagadian City ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Five persons were killed—including a village official—during an ambush in Pagadian City on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday.

Supt. Manuel Palermo, the Pagadian police chief, identified those killed as Lison Valley village chair Marianita Pitogo, Renato Malantig, Rosalinda Enodo, Rosalia Cagas and Rowell Edoquio.

Two other victims remain unidentified, he said.

Palermo said the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay Lourdes.

Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, the Western Mindanao police director, said “politics could be the strong motive of the shooting incident.”

He said the police were conducting deeper investigation.
