Alfonso Julio Causapin Atienza, 78

MANILA, Philippines—Atty. Alfonso Julio Causapin Atienza, a staunch advocate of industrial peace and justice, died of fatal arrhythmia on Wednesday. He was 78.

He is survived by wife, Estrella Llamas-Atienza, daughter Ella, son Arnel, daughter-in-law Sonia, and granddaughters Allison and Allyssa.

As the eldest child of former Calapan Vice Mayor Amado Atienza and public school teacher Esperanza Atienza, he was born and raised in Oriental Mindoro.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Law, Al Atienza, or Ka Al to his friends and colleagues, was slapped with sedition charges and detained during the regime of former president Ferdinand Marcos.

He was one of the most loved Human Resource Development manager of AG&P, Babcock-Hitachi Phils. Inc. and JGC Phil, Inc.

He was cited by the Department of Labor-National Conciliation and Mediation Board for his active participation and promotion of voluntary arbitration. As a professorial lecturer at the UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations, he shared his expertise in labor law.

He was awarded one of the Ten Outstanding Senior Citizens of Pasig City, where he lived.

He would be remembered as a man of integrity, a staunch advocate of industrial peace and justice. His family would remember him as the best Itay on earth.

His body lies at the Loyola Memorial Chapels, Guadalupe. Cremation will be on May 27, Friday, at 8 a.m. His eyes will be donated.
