A thunderstorm is affecting Metro Manila and nearby provinces as typhoon “Ferdie” intensifies, the state weather bureau said on Monday afternoon.

In its 3:48 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said a thunderstorm is affecting Metro Manila (Marikina, Pasig, Quezon City, CAMANAVA, Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasay, Paranaque, Taguig, Las Piñas, Paranaque, Muntinlupa), Cavite (Bacoor), Bulacan (San Jose Del Monte, Marilao, Meycauayan, Obando),portion of Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, and Zambales, which may persist for two hours.

Thunderstorms are also expected over Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, Quezon and other areas of Cavite and Bulacan within the next two hours, it added.

Pagasa said a thunderstorm is also affecting Bohol, portions of Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro which may persist within one to two hours.

Pagasa advised the public to take precautionary measures against heavy to intense rains, strong winds, lightning, and possible flash floods.

Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Cagayan, Apayao, Batanes, and Babuyan Group of Islands due to “Ferdie,” which is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday. YG/JE/rga
