Firearms seized in drug lord Peter Co’s old Bilibid dormitory

Members of the Special Action Force (SAF) seized a submachine gun and several other firearms inside the former dormitory of convicted drug lord Peter Co at the Quadrant 4 Dormitory 2-B Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Last July, Solicitor General Jose Calida identified Co as among the drug lords with ties to a former police general.

Co was previously housed at Dormitory 2-B before he was moved to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after a raid where authorities discovered that they had managed to sneak inside posh appliances, high powered firearms, and gadgets.

From the NBI, he was transferred to Building 14, the supposed area for high risk inmates. But last August, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said the SAF had also managed to seize firearms inside Building 14. Confiscated from Co were three cellular phones.

Aside from the submachine gun, SAF also seized three pieces of .45 caliber and a 9 mm caliber firearms and a flat screen television. The information came from a prison official who refused to be identified because he is not authorized to speak on the matter.

SAF also seized shabu, drug paraphernalia, and mobile phones at the other quadrants of the Maximum Security Compound.

A visitor who attempted to sneak inside 15 grams of shabu last week was also arrested by SAF.

More than 300 PNP-SAF members were deployed to the NBP last July 20 replacing BuCor jail guards who were made to undergo retraining. JE/rga
