Cashless payments OK for Taguig gov’t

Taxpayers in Taguig City can now use credit cards to pay business taxes as well as fees for local licenses and permits, as the city treasury has started honoring Visa credit cards and debit cards.

Already being implemented for the past two weeks, the innovation came after the issuance of City Council Resolution 102-2015 which authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Development Bank of the Philippines to allow the city to accept credit cards and other modes of electronic payment systems, like debit transactions.

Mayor Lani Cayetano said the new payment procedure will offer a new level of convenience for clients and constituents transacting business at the city government.

“We owe it to our taxpayers to make it convenient for them to pay taxes and fees. The technology is already there so why not maximize its use,” the mayor said in a statement on Wednesday.

The city treasury received a total of almost P500,000 in collections through credit card and ATM debit card transactions during the first two weeks of implementation.
