Positive for gunpowder burns

A suspected drug pusher shot dead by police in Pasay City on Aug. 23 even after he surrendered has tested positive for gunpowder residue, Chief Insp. Joey Goforth, officer in charge of the Pasay Police administration unit, told reporters at the National Bureau of Investigation.

Goforth accompanied three of his men—PO1 Jan Erwin Isaac, PO1 Benigno Balayjay and PO1 Melford Olorosisimo—who he said were subpoenaed by the NBI for questioning.

In their affidavit, the three said that they fired at pedicab driver Eric Sison near his residence on F. Muñoz Street, after he drew a gun and fired at them.

A witness said, however, that Sison was unarmed. According to Goforth, the results of the Crime Laboratory’s paraffin test on Sison supported the three policemen’s claim that the pedicab driver shot at them.
