DAGUPAN CITY — The village chief of Santa Barbara town in Pangasinan province was shot dead on Friday night (Sept. 2).

Romeo Macatbag Montemayor, barangay captain of Payas, an interior village of Santa Barbara, was having his fingernails manicured in a makeshift shed near his house at 7:25 p.m. when he was shot several times by an unidentified gunman, according to Chief Insp. Rex Infante, Santa Barbara police chief.

Citing initial testimonies at the area, Infante said Montemayor had been at the subject of complaints from village residents for allegedly making grave threats, for alarm and scandal, and for indiscriminate firing.
