Acting on a tip, Bureau of Customs (BOC) officials stopped a Chinese man from smuggling into the country hundreds of stolen credit cards, skimming devices and electronic access gadgets.
Wu Hong Sheng, 33, from Fujian, was arrested at Terminal 2 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport after he got off a Philippine Airlines flight from Guangzhou on Wednesday morning.
He had two large boxes which he claimed contained clothes, bags and shoes. When checked, the items turned out to be stolen credit cards, skimming gadgets and other illegal access devices, BOC deputy commissioner for enforcement Arnel Alcaraz said.
“We got 38 (smaller) boxes of electronic items and hundreds of stolen credit cards mostly bearing the names of Chinese owners,” Alcaraz told the Inquirer.
Alcaraz said the BOC was looking into Wu’s link with another Chinese man arrested last week at the Laoag airport also for carrying gadgets used in cybercrime and bank fraud.
