September was declared National Peace Consciousness Month under Proclamation No. 675 signed on July 20, 2004 by then President Arroyo.
September was chosen because several peace-building milestones happened during this month, like the signing of the 1996 peace agreement between the government and MNLF on Sept. 2, 1996, and the UN declaration of Sept. 21 as International Day of Peace. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
