President Rodrigo Duterte is looking forward to meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in Laos next week.

“That I look forward to,” Duterte said in a chance interview at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City.

Duterte was at the airport on Wednesday to greet 129 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia.

Asked why he was excited about meeting the controversial Russian leader, Duterte said: “I like Putin. We have similarities”

The President said one of their similarities was “perhaps when it comes to girls.”

Duterte and Putin are known for their unpopular stand on various issues.

Aside from Putin, Duterte is expected to meet with US president Barack Obama and other top leaders from western countries.

The Asean Summit will kick off from September 6 to 8.
