THE LAST Monday of August was declared National Heroes Day by virtue of Republic Act 9492 signed on July 24, 2006. The celebration was first enacted into law through Act. No. 3827 signed on Oct. 28, 1931, declaring the last Sunday of August as an official national holiday. It was moved to the last Monday instead in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s holiday economics program which moves holidays to the nearest Monday or Friday of the week.
