Mother arrested for dumping dead infant

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines—A former barangay (village) health worker was arrested on Friday (Aug. 26) for dumping her newly-born infant boy at a vacant lot in Ugac Sur village in this province.

The remains of the infant were discovered 30 kilometers away from the house of his mother, Doris Adducul, according to Ugac Sur village chief Jacinto Maddara.

Adducul confessed she gave birth to the boy on Aug. 21. Her sister, Geraldine, said she did not know the child had died and had been searching for the boy, only to be told it was taken to Isabela province by its father.

Infanticide charges have been readied against Adducul.
