LRT1 escalators coming back to life

THE PRIVATE sector operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 said the elevators and escalators at Doroteo Jose and Edsa stations are back in operation following the issuance of permits to operate by the city governments of Manila and Pasay.

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said the rehabilitation involved six escalators and two elevators at the Doroteo Jose Station and two elevators at the Edsa station.

It added that these were among the 32 lifts already rehabilitated in partnership with original equipment manufacturers, Schindler and Otis.

The restored elevators and escalators also included upgrades, and incorporated features like Braille buttons and accessibility of location of the controls to commuters in wheelchairs.

The company said it is optimistic that elevators in Roosevelt, Balintawak, and Monumento stations would be granted permits to operate in the next few months.” Miguel R. Camus

Delivery boy Richmond Perez, 28, and tricycle driver Jayvee Marinas, 30, were charged with murder in the city prosecutor office for the death of Mary Li. Senior Insp.

Rommel Anicete, chief of Manila Police District homicide section, said Perez and Marinas had confessed that a business partner of Li ordered her killed in 2014 for a P50,000 fee.

Anicete declined to identify the mastermind in the killing as the investigation is still ongoing.

Marinas and Perez were arrested based on arrest warrants issued by the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court for a separate case of robbery, but an eyewitness to Li’s killing positively identified the two as the men who shot the victim, Anicete said. Aie Balagtas See
