ALBUERA, Leyte — Beleaguered Mayor Rolando Espinosa went to the local police station on Monday, to tell them what he knew about the illegal drugs operation being run by his son, Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr.
The interrogation of the mayor lasted for more than five hours from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., which sparked rumors in this third class municipality that the elder Espinosa had been arrested.
Both the elder Espinosa and Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido, Albuera police chief, declined to say what the mayor had revealed.
The mayor declined to issue a statement to the media after emerging from the office of Espenido.
“Dili ko puwede makasulti ninyo bisan unsa (I cannot tell you anything),” he said.
He immediately went inside his service vehicle that took him back to the municipal hall where he had been staying since he reported back to work on Aug. 16, 2016.
Espinosa is facing a complaint for violation for the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002 after the police recovered P88 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) inside his house in Barangay Benolho, Albuera, during a raid early this month.
Espenido said the mayor went to his office on Monday morning to tell him about the illegal drugs operation of Kerwin, said to be the biggest drug lord in Eastern Visayas.
He lauded the cooperation shown by Espinosa who was interrogated for more than five hours. SFM
