Drug suspect fighting for life after being shot in Samar

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar—The number 2 on the drug watch list of the police here is fighting for his life after he was shot by one of two men on board a motorcycle on Thursday afternoon.

Adonis Tan, 34, was sitting on his motorcycle while watching a basketball game in Barangay (village) Canlapwas past 3 p.m. on Thursday when two men on board a motorcycle arrived.

The passenger of the motorcycle then shot Tan in the left chest, left abdomen and left thigh before speeding off.

He was brought to the Samar Provincial Hospital but was transferred to Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City, Leyte.

Supt. Edwin F. Barbosa, Catbalogan City police chief, said the perpetrators may be Tan’s colleagues in the illegal drug trade.

He said the victim was among those who surrendered during Oplan Tokhang, the campaign that involved policemen knocking on the houses of drug personalities and asking them to change their ways.

Tan reportedly gave the police the names of his suppliers and fellow peddlers in Catbalogan. RAM/rga
