MANILA — Two suspected members of a gun-for-hire group were killed in an encounter with Quezon City policemen along NIA Road, Barangay Pinyahan.
Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, the QCPD director, identified one of the fatalities as Glen Ebio, a notorious leader of a gun-for-hire gang, which had been operating in Metro Manila, Bicol Region (Region V) and Central Luzon (Region III). He was killed along with an unidentified companion believed to be his cohort in some of his illegal activities.
The 31-year-old gang leader had a standing warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Malolos Bulacan 3rd Judicial Regional Branch 22 three years ago, Eleazar said.
The QCPD recently received an intelligence report that Ebio was seen near the squatter’s area at Barangay Central while aboard a black motorcycle.
It was during an Oplan Sita operation around 12 a.m. Thursday, when policemen flagged down Ebio who was driving a black motorcycle and wearing a helmet with one rider along NIA Road.
Eleazar said that instead of stopping at the police checkpoint, the suspects sped away from the authorities and also fired at them. This prompted the police to shoot them, killing both suspects.
The police were able to recover from them two .45-pistols and the motorcycle, which had no license plate and whose engine and chassis numbers were erased. SFM/rga
