A passenger jeepney lost its brakes and caused an eight-vehicle smashup in Makati City on Wednesday morning.

Officials said the air-conditioned jeepney driven by Emmanuel Miranda went wayward and started a domino effect affecting seven stationary vehicles on the Kalayaan Avenue flyover near Jervois Street in Barangay Pinagkaisahan about 6:50 a.m., Makati police chief Senior Supt. Rommil Mitra said.

The Makati Public Safety Department said the other vehicles involved were another jeepney driven by Wilfredo Hilario, a Toyota Vios driven by Rodolfo Cadilena Jr., a UV Express van driven by Noli Gardoce, a Toyota Altis driven by Ignacio Ledesma, a Mitsubishi Strada driven by Percival Nacino, an Isuzu Crosswind driven by Anthony Odono, and a Mitsubishi GLX driven by Ronald Gonzales.

Six motorists sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by a rescue team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

The resulting oil spill on the road required more response teams from the fire department, Makati Rescue and barangays Guadalupe Nuevo and South Cembo. Erika Sauler
