‘Marcos hero’s burial to push through, unless court order stops it’

Plans for the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani are underway and will push through unless there is a court order stopping it, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said on Wednesday.

Abella said no date has been set for the burial.

But there are petitions before the Supreme Court questioning the government’s decision to allow it. The court has set oral arguments on the case next week.

“It seems that everything is starting to move according to arrangements, so unless there is a [temporary restraining order] or anything like that, it will proceed as planned,” Abella said in a press briefing.

Victims of human rights abuses during martial law have criticized the President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to allow the late strongman to be laid to rest at Libingan ng mga Bayani, saying this would be an injustice given what he had done to the country. RAM
