The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)–Episcopal Commission on the Laity has urged President Rodrigo Duterte to act on his promise to fix the heavy vehicular traffic in Metro Manila.
Bishop Broderick Pabillo, chair of the commission, told Radyo Veritas on Tuesday that Duterte had promised to address the traffic problems in the Metro, but commuters still got stuck on the roads for hours.
Pabillo also questioned Duterte’s need for emergency powers to solve the traffic problem.
“Magtatapos na ’yang 100 araw na ’yan, ’yan din ay naghahanap tayo ng concrete steps na gagawin niya para mawakasan ang trapik sa Maynila. Hindi lang sapat na humingi ng ‘emergency powers.’ Ano ba ang gagawin niya sa emergency powers na ibibigay sa kanya? Kaya naghahanap tayo ng concrete steps kung paano masolusyunan ang trapik na ito,” said Pabillo.
Traffic in Metro Manila has been regarded “the worst traffic on earth” by global traffic and navigation mobile app Waze.
