Police are soon coming to upscale bars to monitor alleged illegal drug activities happening at some clubs in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and Makati City.
The National Capital Region Police Office will deploy intelligence teams composed of at least three operatives to conduct surveillance operations in bars where party drugs are allegedly sold.
NCRPO head Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde on Monday said owners of the bars in BGC and Makati are willing to meet with Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” De la Rosa to promise him that they would work with the police in their ongoing campaign against illegal drugs.
“Mayroon na tayong initial na usapin sa kanila at sabi nila willing silang harapin si PNP chief at tumulong sa kampanya against illegal drugs (We had initial discussions with them and they said that they’re willing to meet the PNP chief and to help in the campaign against illegal drugs). In fact, they are even willing to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the PNP para sa anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Albayalde told reporters at Camp Crame.
Albaylde said the bar owners want to correct public perceptions that drugs, particularly ecstasy, are being sold by distributors in their place.
“Very cooperative noong nakausap natin sila at para nga matanggal yung haka-haka na ‘yung kanilang mga club ay distribution ng illegal drugs (They were very cooperative when we talked to them, and they wanted to dispel the assumption that there’s illegal drugs distribution in their clubs),” he said.
Once the owners are done meeting with De la Rosa, Albayalde said they can start deploying intelligence teams to the high-end bars.
Over the weekend, police arrested Monster radio RX 93.1 DJ Karen Bordador and her partner Emilio Lim in a buy bust operation in Pasig City. They were caught in possession of ecstasy and marijuana worth P3 million. The drugs were allegedly sold in bars and to some showbiz personalities. JE/rga
