CORELLA, Bohol—A policeman, who had gone on absent without official leave (AWOL), was shot dead by still unknown assailants on Sunday night in Corella town, Bohol province.
SPO1 Rolex Tamarra, 35, a resident of Panglao town, was about to leave the cockpit area in Purok 7, Barangay (village) Sambog here after watching the derby around 7:40 p.m. when two men approached and shot him.
The assailants then escaped heading to Balilihan town, said PO3 Lorepol Perocho, Corella police investigator.
He said the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the head and chest.
The Scene of Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered 12 empty shells of caliber .45 pistol, .38 caliber revolver still loaded with a magazine, a mobile phone, sunglasses, black wallet that contained police identification card, driver’s license, bank cards and cheque for Jinilda Malaay dated August 15, 2009 amounting to P2 million and P300 in cash.
Perocho said they had yet to determine the identities of the gunmen and motives for the killing.
Tamarra was once detailed as operative of Provincial Public Safety Company or Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in 2009 to 2012 before he was assigned to a police station in Mandaue City, Cebu.
He was known in Bohol to be running after drug personalities involved in illegal drug trade.
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, chief of Mandaue City Police Station, said that Tamarra went on AWOL on May 1.
But he added Tamarra’s name was not on the list of rogue policemen involved in illegal drugs. RAM
