A RARE tornado hit some parts of Manila on Sunday afternoon, tearing off roofs and spinning debris into the air, a radio report said.
No was reported injured in the brief violent windstorm that has scared many residents in Manila, DZMM reported.
A witness said a column of cloud appeared in Intramuros that swiftly traveled toward the Liwasang Bonifacio.
The tornado apparently blew into the Quaipo and Sampaloc districts where people said they saw debris and peeled off roofs swirling in the air.
Aldczar Aurelio of the state weather bureau told the radio station later in the afternoon that the tornado might have been caused by the severe thunderstorm that hit Manila past 4 p.m.
He said the tornado was small and only lasted for 20 minutes.
