Magnitude 5 quake shakes Biliran, Cebu, others
CEBU CITY—A magnitude 5 earthquake shook in some parts of the Visayas on Saturday night, according to the bulletin posted by the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on its website.
The epicenter of the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was traced in Naval town, Biliran province.
The earthquake was felt in some parts of Cebu City.
According to the bulletin, the earthquake registered at Intensity 2 in Cebu City and Masbate City; Intensity 5 in Naval and Almeria towns in Biliran and Leyte town in Leyte province; Intensity 4 in Tolosa town, Leyte province; and Intensity 3 in Mandaue City in Cebu.
According to Robinson Giorgio, officer-in-charge (OIC) of Phivolcs Cebu office based in Lapu-Lapu City, their local instruments recorded a magnitude 4.8-earthquake at 10:05 p.m.
Giorgio said the intensity of the tremor varies, depending on the location of the person who feels it.
Based on the intensity scale of Phivolcs, Intensity 5 is the strongest where the earthquake can be felt by everyone whether or not they are inside the building. TVJ
