LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — It was a bloody Wednesday in Cavite province as eight suspected illegal drug traders were killed in separate shootouts with policemen, reports on Thursday said.
A report from the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police showed that the drug pushing suspects were slain after engaging policemen in gun battles during drug busts in six towns and two cities in Cavite.
In Naic town, a suspect, identified only as Darwin Tangkad, drew his gun after realizing that he was dealing with undercover policemen at 12:10 a.m. in Barangay Ibayo Silangan. He died while being taken to the San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in that town.
In General Trias town, police said June Alvarez died after trading shots with policemen as he tried to escape at 2:35 a.m. in Barangay Manggahan. Police said they recovered a .45 cal. gun from the scene.
In Rosario town, police subjected Ferdie Buenavista in a drug bust at 3:30 a.m. in Barangay Tejeros. Buenavista resisted arrest and fired at the policemen. The lawmen retaliated, killing Buenavista. A sachet of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) was recovered from the suspect.
The police’s anti-drug operations continued throughout the day in the province.
In Bacoor City, Christopher Martin, 40, alias Pulo, died after a gunfight with the police at 1:45 p.m. in Barangay San Nicolas 1.
Police described Martin as a “high value target” and a member of the so-called Navarro Drug Group, which has been operating in the city. A .38-caliber gun and 10 sachets of suspected shabu were recovered from Martin.
In another drug bust in Indang town, a drug suspect, identified only as Urong, was killed in a gunfight with policemen in Barangay Guyam Munti.
In Kawit town, Jeyren Peregrino was killed after trading shots with undercover policemen following a drug transaction in Barangay Wakas 2 at 9:15 p.m.
In Amadeo town, a suspect, identified only as Tyson, was shot and killed by a policeman after he grabbed the latter’s gun at 11 p.m. in Barangay 1.
Police said the suspect tried to flee but policemen were able to arrest him. While Tyson was being taken to a hospital, he allegedly grabbed one of the officers’ gun, forcing a policeman to shoot him.
The suspect died while being taken to the Ospital ng Tagaytay in Tagaytay City.
In Imus City, a drug suspect, identified only as “Boss Danny,” was killed after a police chase in Barangay Buhay na Tubig at 11 p.m. SFM/rga
