DAGUPAN CITY — Eighteen more impounded vehicles were transferred to Tarlac City from the Land Transportation Office in Quezon City on Thursday (Aug. 11).

Ian Buenafe, a senior officer of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, said the convoy of vehicles left the LTO impounding area in Quezon City at about 8 a.m. and arrived at about noon at the Tarlac impounding area in Barangay San Isidro.

The time of the trip, which normally took two hours, was longer because some of the vehicles were not in good running condition, Buenafe said.

One vehicle broke down and had to be towed.

The new batch of impounded vehicles brought up to 35 the number of cars in LTO Tarlac’s custody.

The LTO’s one-hectare property in Tarlac can accommodate 800 vehicles.

Estela Nicolas, Tarlac LTO chief, said most of the impounded vehicles were “colorum” or vehicles serving as utility vehicles without an LTFRB franchise.

The LTO opened its Tarlac compound for impounded vehicles due to the congestion at its headquarters in Quezon City.  SFM/rga
